The 41st Annual Meeting of the Pacific Seabird Group (PSG) will be held in Juneau, Alaska from 19-22 February 2014. The conference will include a special paper session entitled Oiled Seabird Rescue and Rehabilitation: Is it worth it?
This session will look at the latest information on different species' response to the rehabilitation process, post-release tracking studies, long-term impacts of oil on seabirds, and chronic oil pollution issues, in an effort to better assess the value of oiled bird rehabilitation.
In addition to the regular PSG Conference sessions, which include topics such as Behaviour, Breeding Biology, Conservation Biology, Foraging Ecology, Restoration and Eradication, and Management, Policy and/or Planning; there will be a total of five special paper sessions, including the oiled seabird session. The five special paper sessions planned are:
- Oiled seabird rescue and rehabiliation: is it worth it?
- Impacts of fisheries bycatch and derelict nets on Pacific marine birds
- Arctic seabird ecology
- Conservation of Hawaiian seabirds
- Japanese and Korean seabirds
Eight field trips to view local seabirds and marine mammals are planned for before an after the conference. Juneau, Alaska cannot be reached by road, thus conference attendees must arrive by air or by Alaska Marine Highway System ferry.
Early registration for the conference ends on 16 December and PSG is recommending attendees book hotel rooms before the end of 2013, as special rates may not be available after that.
