Starting 18 November 2013, BP is making environmental data gathered during and after the Deepwater Horizon well blowout available to the public on a new website: gulfsciencedata.bp.
The initial information provided covers water chemistry data and the characteristics of oil from the Macondo well. Over the next year, BP will include data regarding impacts of the spill on birds, marine mammals and sea turtles in the Gulf of Mexico. Among the information given will be cooperative and independent Natural Resource Damage Assessment (NRDA) studies of avian survival, productivity and population data. Marine mammal and sea turtle data collected will cover health assessments, telemetry studies and acoustic surveys.
Information on aquatic biology, shoreline impact and environmental toxicology will also be added as these data become available. Publications or links to publications based on these data will also be made available on the site.
