The first Steering Group meeting of the newly established EMPOWER Network was held in Brussels in May. The Steering Group’s role is to advise and assist Sea Alarm in setting up the EMPOWER Network and coordinate the various activities of the work programme.
This initiative has been made possible thanks to a grant awarded to Sea Alarm by the European Commission and Sea Alarm’s long term funding provided by Oil Spill Response.
EMPOWER unites European NGOs active in the field of marine emergency response and preparedness, including those involved in marine wildlife rehabilitation, science, conservation and animal welfare. Organisations can become EMPOWER members by signing up to a set of common principles.
EMPOWER will be officially launched at the upcoming Effects of Oil on Wildlife (EOW) Conference in Tallinn, Estonia, where a presentation and round-table discussion will be held.
