The Institute of Veterinary, Animal and Biomedical Sciences at Massey University, Palmerston North, invites applications for a Research Officer/ Senior Research Officer in Oiled Wildlife Response. More information is provided here.
Wildbase is New Zealand’s leading wildlife health centre, and Wildbase staff have an international reputation in avian medicine and surgery, conservation medicine, wildlife health and ecotoxicology. Wildbase Oil Response provides oiled wildlife prepardness and emergency response for New Zealand and further afield.
This permanent, full-time role involves the development and management of Wildbase’s Oil Response research programme (30-50%), and supporting Wildbase Oil Response business activities (50%). Depending on the skill set of the successful candidate, the role may involve appointment as Deputy Leader of Wildbase’s Oil Response group. Deputy leadership would require the development and management of Wildbase Oil Response business, including the exploration of new business opportunities and management of client relationships.
You are expected to be available for travel (international and domestic) at short notice for emergency wildlife response activities, as well as regular travel (international and domestic) to deliver oil response training activities and other related business.
The successful applicant must also possess a PhD in Biological Sciences, and have a proven record of research activities and successful funding acquisition. You will be expected to lead and support research projects relating to oil response. In addition, you will show initiative, flexibility, and excellent communication and team skills.
