Join up to EMPOWER now!

Apply for EMPOWER membership and you could become part of an international organisation promoting professionalism in oiled wildlife response.

For an oiled wildlife response plan to work well, NGO contributions need to be fully integrated into the governmental response, which can only be effective if NGOs are seen by the authorities as professional and reliable partners. EMPOWER is a European network which will build and reinforce these partnerships and formalise them as part of national oil spill response planning. EMPOWER will help its members to facilitate activities which improve preparedness for oiled wildlife and other marine emergencies.

What’s in it for you – a potential Member?

  • Have your say – contribute to the process of defining strategy and activities of the network, by advising on issues and projects put forward by the Steering Group.
  • Learn from others – improve your organisation’s understanding about other fields of oiled wildlife response (planning, management, rehabilitation, science).
  • Get involved – participate in discussions, projects, work groups and forums, exchanging ideas, opinions and accessing useful information.
  • Reach out – connect to other members, keep up to date with their latest news, developments in methods, technologies and policies for oiled wildlife response.
  • Educate others – share information on your organisation and its activities with a wider European audience.
  • Access the Members Only domain of the EMPOWER section of www.oiledwildlife.eu, providing you with exclusive access to discussion groups, online training, tools, guidelines, and other useful information.
  • Apply for accreditation (if EMPOWER members request an accreditation scheme be developed) for a member organisation, individual scientist or hands-on responder.
  • Call on Sea Alarm or other network Members for assistance in a marine wildlife emergency.

Becoming a member is free of charge and relatively easy – the most important part is that your organisation signs up to the EMPOWER Code of Conduct. It describes the attitude of cooperation, professionalism and collegiality that EMPOWER Members should have in order to be a useful and effective partner in an emergency response.
