A two-day Oiled Wildlife Response Planning course, to be held 9-10 October in Ostend, Belgium, will introduce industry response personnel and other stakeholders responsible for environmental resources to the complexities of an oiled wildlife response.
Oil Spill Response (OSRL) developed this new course, which debuted in Singapore in February, in collaboration with Sea Alarm and other oiled wildlife response experts. The course is geared to help attendees gain an understanding of what is needed to effectively integrate wildlife into the overall response and to learn about the role of professional wildlife responders.
The ethical aspects of responding to wildlife incidents will also be explored. A tabletop exercise will give attendees a chance to work with spill trajectory modeling and wildlife sensitivity maps in developing a response strategy.
Attendance at the Ostend course includes a visit to the Wildlife Rescue Centre Ostend (WRCO) to observe firsthand how this state of the art facility is designed to rapidly convert from its ongoing work of wildlife rehabilitation to an oiled bird cleaning and care unit.
